Jungle

Do you remember roller-disco? How about funky fresh falsetto? Jungle remembers. Their new music video for September’s underplayed single, “The Heat” – which premiered on the first of the month – celebrates the excitement of these two 70s artifacts to an underwhelming audience. Such a candid visual interpretation of their most valuable song should have been met with larger applause; yet, Jungle’s lack of a social media prowess has left them without the internet presence necessary to garner substantial YouTube hits.

They do, however, have quite a following on Facebook which led me to their newest single here:

The sound of “Lucky I Got What I Want” (Embedded above) strays slightly from “The Heat” (below). Both songs, however, exude a relaxed environment with their repetitive hooks and dynamic interpolation of synths.

The juxtaposition of the two tracks accurately demonstrates the strength of Jungle’s songwriting abilities. “The Heat”, however, is unique as it leaves a lasting impression due to its production value and humbling lyrics:

Doing all that I can for you… so I can treat you better

Jungle’s verses are succinct and to the point, yet their intentions are clear. The instruments always build underneath the hook and are reduced in the other moments of the track. Such a focus on audible strength demonstrates the control that this duo has over their unique, yet familiar, sound.

Classic samples fill both tracks and act as an anchor into Jungle’s 70s vibe. Hopefully such a focus is held as an important thematic element in the EP to come. The Heat (EP) includes the singles “The Heat” and “Lucky I Got What I Want” as well as new songs and the debut tracks “Platoon” and “Drops”.

The EP, set to release on October 21st through B3SCI Records, looks like it will be an excellent introduction to Jungle’s creative flow and articulation. It is available for pre-order digitally (iTunes) and physically (Vinyl). Hopefully the group can garner more attention through radio plays and press, since their website and Facebook lack promotional significance.
